HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT FROM ORTHOTROPICS?
Many of you are here because you are familiar with Facial Growth Guidance or Orthotropics as pioneered by Professor John Mew and his son Dr. Mike Mew. Prof. Mew is in fact one of Dr. Wong's biggest influences professionally and a great mentor of his. We are of course thrilled and honoured he will be speaking at our 2-day event in June (via Zoom livestream).
So how is Postural Orthodontics different?
Dr. Wong's method is a unique approach to early intervention utilizing existing Orthotropic principles and techniques as well as new appliances and protocols that are evidence-based (backed by peer reviewed literature) and results oriented.

In addition, Dr. Wong's philosophy is more of a conservative approach to learning and practicing Orthotropics. He's specifically created Postural Orthodontics as a bridge to more complicated Orthotropic type cases. So Postural Orthodontics is about learning how to 'walk' before one 'runs'. It's about first learning how to treat simple 'expansion only cases' (mild skeletal malocclusions) in younger patients aged 3-11. During these earlier years  growth guidance is a whole lot easier both in terms of compliance and when the child's bones are still more malleable versus when they hit puberty.

While Dr. Wong has developed a full time practice based on treating more severe malocclusions, Postural Orthodontics is designed to provide the foundation that he believes is necessary before one should embark on Orthotropics, which Dr. Wong does teach but in later more advanced training and mentoring programs.

Please also note that Dr. Wong's methods are not for adults and are only designed for young children aged 3-11 (ideally before the age of 7).

    The past 9 years, as the principle of the clinic Natural Smiles Centre, he’s been focused on the correction of early childhood craniofacial development issues; a devoted practitioner for the early correction of malocclusion. 

    It has been Dr Wong’s good fortune to have guidance and mentoring from both Prof. John Mew from London and Dr. Bill Hang from Los Angeles. 

    Based on the Mew-tropic Premise postural growth theories, he developed a surprisingly effective exercise programme and co-authored the book GOPex (“Good Oral Posture exercises”). He has also published journal & textbook articles on sleep disorder breathing. 

    Currently, Dr Wong is working on publishing research and developing projects at the Orthodontic Departments at the University Of Valencia, the University of Alberta and the Autonomous National University of Mexico. 

    His mission is to help children learn correct oral posture, so they can avoid multiple chronic health problems that plague modern societies.

    Dr Sandra Kahn DDS, MSD is a Specialist Orthodontist and a graduate from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco, California.

    Inventor of the 'Kahn Bow', she is the co-author of GOPex and JAWS, and international lecturer on the topic of airway centric orthodontics. 

    She began her work in orthodontics with a specialty in physical anthropology at the University of California in Berkeley focusing her studies on human craniofacial growth and development. 

    After 22 years of clinical experience in “traditional” orthodontics, she changed her approach focusing on pediatric prevention of long-term Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

      Roland Barrowman is an Australian trained Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. Roland completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Otago in New Zealand, before relocating to Australia to complete his Medical degree at the University of Melbourne. 

      He is trained in the core scope of oral and maxillofacial surgeries, including dental extractions and implants, hard and soft tissue bone augmentation, TMJ (temporomandibular joint) surgery and corrective (orthognathic) jaw surgery. 

      His extended scope subspecialty interests include Head and Neck Oncology, Facial Plastic Surgery, and surgery for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. 

      Roland trains advanced surgical trainees at the Austin Hospital, where he works a consultant. Within the unit, he manages patients with a range of conditions from facial deformities, to head and neck cancer. 

      He is part of the Austin Health Head and Neck Cancer multi-disciplinary team, and has published in peer reviewed journals.

        It has been Dr Wong’s good fortune to have guidance and mentoring from both Prof. John Mew from London and Dr. Bill Hang from Los Angeles. 

        Based on the Mew-tropic Premise postural growth theories, he developed a surprisingly effective exercise programme and co-authored the book GOPex (“Good Oral Posture exercises”). He has also published journal & textbook articles on sleep disorder breathing. 

        Currently, Dr Wong is working on publishing research and developing projects at the Orthodontic Departments at the University Of Valencia, the University of Alberta and the Autonomous National University of Mexico. 

        His mission is to help children learn correct oral posture, so they can avoid multiple chronic health problems that plague modern societies.

        Dr Sandra Kahn DDS, MSD is a Specialist Orthodontist and a graduate from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco, California.

        Inventor of the 'Kahn Bow', she is the co-author of GOPex and JAWS, and international lecturer on the topic of airway centric orthodontics. 

        She began her work in orthodontics with a specialty in physical anthropology at the University of California in Berkeley focusing her studies on human craniofacial growth and development.

          Roland Barrowman is an Australian trained Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. Roland completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Otago in New Zealand, before relocating to Australia to complete his Medical degree at the University of Melbourne. 

          He is trained in the core scope of oral and maxillofacial surgeries, including dental extractions and implants, hard and soft tissue bone augmentation, TMJ (temporomandibular joint) surgery and corrective (orthognathic) jaw surgery. 

          His extended scope subspecialty interests include Head and Neck Oncology, Facial Plastic Surgery, and surgery for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. 

          Roland trains advanced surgical trainees at the Austin Hospital, where he works a consultant. Within the unit, he manages patients with a range of conditions from facial deformities, to head and neck cancer.
